Shorter Catechism, which tells us, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” They are describing the same truth. When the Preacher calls us to fear God, he is calling us precisely to the enjoyment of God that Westminster calls the chief end of man. The nature of the living God means that the fear which pleases him is not a groveling, shrinking fear. He is no tyrant.
